Well Worth the Effort

Now that we see the pictures, these chandeliers are truly magnificent. However, hanging them took a very tall ladder and four of us most of a day. They catch both the natural and man-made lights in such a unique and ever-changing way. Yes, well worth the effort, especially because Patty likes them so much!

Mid-Century Modern Christmas

As some of you may know, this year I removed

all the Tuscan furnishings and decor from my

home and replaced it with mid-century Modern.

Gone is the carpet and all those rugs, the huge

sofa, chair and bar stools. Gone is all of that

gold, rust and moss. Its been replaced by

hardwood floors, a Cooper Buffet (named after

the builder in CO that first introduced me to

this concept)and a gray and carmel color

scheme. This completely changed the feel,

look and spaciousness of the rooms.

Here, we’ve dressed the rooms simply in gold

and white for the Holidays. We just put balls,

bows, garland around, added candles and

nativity scenes, and we are done for this year.

We hope it conveys our best wishes to all of

you for a truly Merry Christmas!

The Meaning of Colors

Colors affect us all. Each of the 6 basic colors have characteristics based on physiology, psychology and cultural studies. And each of those colors has a specific meaning regardless of its value(tan is brown with white added, pink is red with white added.) The meanings of the colors can give us insights into our personalities. And, as we always say, if we can get our surroundings to mirror our personalities back at us, that’s when we are the most comfortable, the happiest. So let’s talk about these basic characteristics by color:

Red is powe4r and control, passion, heat, love and hate. Its the first color we can see as infants.

Blue is associated with authority and strength, and the color of mothe4rhood, the sky sea. and is dependable and honest.

Yellow is motion, change, happiness and playful. It carries the eye from room to room.

Orange is the color that reduces tension. Orange is energetic, inviting, and gregarious. Stimulates the appetite.

Green is possions, either of objects of of self, means confidence and vitality and growth.

Violet is transition, indecision and need, spirituality and magic. Purple is the color of kings.

Gray is the new Beige…

While this statement isn’t new in the world of design, it might be to those of you who thought they went way out of their comfort zone when they changed the color of their interiors from mostly white to mostly beige. But that might have been years ago and now you might be looking for a refresh. While still in the realm of “safe”, gray-is-up to date, neutral, and supports its surroundings with a sophisticated understatement. Worth a thought if you want a change that’s not too radical.

From Floors to Ceilings

I met Joanie at a What Women Want conference, and was intrigued by her displays. She worked with us redoing our major living areas, including kitchen, entry and great room. We did floors, furnishings, window coverings and accessories. She took our love of nature and color and made our home both comfortable and beautiful. We loved working with her as she listened to what we wanted and was very enthusiastic about the improvements she could make. We had a WONDERFUL experience working with Joanie….Linda in Washington

Easy Bathroom Update

A quick and easy way to update any small bathroom is to add a bath drape. Mounting a short drapery rod on the ceiling, and then adding a stationery drapery with coordinating colors adds texture and interest without breaking the bank!

Neal’s desert home

“Avis created my retirement haven! I had two years to redecorate the lower level of my new Las Vegas home in anticipation of my move from Los Angeles. We completed the work in stages and within budget. As the surroundings evolved, each time I visited it was “WOW, what a difference!” In fact, I was so happy with the interior, I asked her to landscape the exterior. I am glad I chose ARRANGE! Goodbye Fluorescents

We needed to update an outdated Summerlin kitchen with the dreaded fluorescent ceiling light…. Our contractor redid the ceiling entirely; we added recessed lights, a drum shade over the table and, yes, a fan with a downlight. (No, it doesn’t cool off the food – just the chef….) Then we replaced the dated countertops with granite and installed a backsplash of pseudo-”mother-of-pearl” mosiac tiles. Now they create dinners in style!
